"I Hate Radio" Music News 10/21/2016
Curated Music News
So, I am trying this format to communicate the music stories that speak to me on any particular day (instead of just posting the links). Usually, I want to say more than is allowed in a Tweet.
Oh, I am also going to start a podcast soon, more on that as I get it all setup. As you can guess, it will be called "I Hate Radio" which is my response to "I Heart Radio."
Believe it or not, somebody from the Rock and Roll HOF responded to my Class of 2017 rant (well, to a Twitter conversation that a friend and I were having at the time). This is what they said:
@stradiomusic @OnPirateSat Your tweets to us suggest otherwise. There's no reason Bad Brains, Kraftwerk, etc. won't get in on future ballots
— Rock Hall (@rockhall) December 21, 2016
Which would make sense except for a few things:
* I wasn't the one that said that the Rock Hall didn't matter, I think it does (if you missed my original rant, it is HERE).
* My main argument was about how, by their own criteria, Kraftwerk was more influential on MUSIC (not record sales) than "Yes." Not to mention MC5????
* My secondary argument was that there was nothing ROCK AND ROLL about this induction class outside of Tupac (and Baez in the 60's and 70's). This was a "safe" class, Rock and Roll as elevator music and classic radio fodder.
* It isn't true, Kraftwerk has been denied twice and many artists are never re-nominated (what happened to the very deserving JB's after last year, for instance?). And, when you vote in this manner, it seems you favor the nice polite radio-friendly version of what "rock" means. Why would that change? At the very least, it appears that for truly alternative voices they have to also have massive chart success to enter (Nirvana, Joan Jett).
At a time when rock music is struggling to remain relevant, maybe a little less classicism would help? I know you think that incorporating hip-hop (a move I agree with) will fix this for you and maybe it will. But, for many people, rock meant rebellion and burning down the house.
Just saying, take some risks. Introducing Bad Brains to a whole new generation wouldn't hurt.
New NIN track released (EP too)
A few days ago I mentioned that Nine Inch Nails would release a new EP (Not The Actual Events) and today, we got the first taste, as reported by NME, in this long brooding and angry drone-rocker "Burning Bright" (Field On Fire).
The EP comes out tomorrow!
Enjoy!
Wrapping Up
A little shorter today, I was sick as a dog yesterday and am just now bouncing back (knock wood). So, I am behind on everything (of course).

Are you excited about the new NIN album?
Are you as frustrated as I am about the Rock Hall inductees list? Or am I, as usual, nuts?
Let me know what you think, leave a comment!
