The "Me and the Losers" Spotify Playlist (Hello 2017!)
The “Me and the Losers” Spotify Playlist
Every Tuesday (or Monday night) I put out a new curated playlist for your listening enjoyment. You can "Just Hit Play" or check out the song list below for Easter Eggs about the bands.
I tend to focus on alternative music, often experimental music, and I am always trying to find new artists or bands. For instance, this playlist includes songs from German, Swedish, and Australian artists among others.
"I Hate Radio" is the name of the podcast I am about to start and it is a play on "I Heart Radio" in opposition to music consolidation.
Last year, I included over 200 songs from 2016 on my playlists. Let's see if I can top that in 2017.
You can catch up on my complete list of The Best Albums of 2016 HERE.
Last week's playlist was called the "Red Kismet Kill" playlist, you can listen to it HERE.
And, as always, Explore, Enjoy, and Share Music!
The Songs (with Easter Eggs)
1. Unites, Lost Under Heaven, Spiritual Songs for Lovers to Sing (2016, Mute)
This is a different kind of sound, almost made me want to sing along by the end.
2. Me and Your Mama, Childish Gambino, Awaken My Love (2016, Glassnote Records)
Very impressed with this album by Childish G. Lots of funky good times to be had here.
3. Keine Zeit fur Zartlichkiet, Karies, Es geht sich aus (2016)
I have no idea what this band is about, because I don't speak German, but I like what I am hearing here. I couldn't find any press in English about them. But, they are good stuff.
4. Night Time, The Microphones, Early Tapes 1996-1998 (2016)
The Microphones are BACK! Okay, not really, it is just a bunch of tapes from way back when. But, I do still love them!
5. Bleached, Twist, Spectral (2016, Buzz Records)
This is a cool song by Holy Fuck's Brian Borcherdt and Laura Hermiston on vocals
6. Space, Mary Lynn, My Animal (2016, Anyway)
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this album (since she is from Colombus Ohio).
7. Be Above It, Tame Impala, Lonerism (2012, Modular Recordings)
I was trying to explore some more of the bizarre and psychedelic on this playlist, so why not start with this from Tame Impala's psychedelic period.
8. It's Tomorrow Night, Flyying Colours, Mindfullness (2016, Mascot Group)
Which leads to this song that would have fit right in on either classic alternative radio or classic rock radio.
9. Storm Maker, Troller, Graphic (2016, Holodeck Records)
Troller is out there, but in the coolest possible way, I am still debating on whether I should include the cover art...Probably not.
10. The Dead Are Dumb, Nothing, Tired of Tomorrow (2016, Relapse Records)
I have gone from Psychedelic to Rock to Dark Wave. Why not some dark shoegaze too.
11. Close To Be Close To Me, Echo Ladies, Single (2016, Hybris Records)
This single is AWESOME and one of the closest sounds I have ever heard to that of Cocteau Twins. Really great stuff. Probably my favorite song on the playlist.
12. Wishlist, Holy Now, Single (2016, Lazy Octopus Records)
After all the dark, how about some fun.
13. Losers, Jenn Champion, Cool Choices (2014, Hardly Art)
Only Jenn Champion could make a song with lyrics this depressing seem cathartic.
Wrapping It Up
I call my site "On Pirate Satellite" because of the song "This is Radio Clash" by The Clash
The crazy names of the playlists were inspired by Captain Beefheart.
I really should have the podcast up and running fairly soon. It has been a busy couple of weeks between the holidays and having a cold.
Thanks for the traffic and support!
What was your favorite song on the playlist? Band?
