RIP Onyeabor, Odenkirk goes Netflix, & Chavez - Music News 1/19/2017
Curated Music News
I used to just send tweets across social media for all the news that I thought was interesting but now I do this because I would rather comment on the news that I find interesting.
Anyway, I try to do a new news post every Monday through Friday (doesn't always work out) FYI, every Tuesday I post new Spotify playlists. This week's playlist features four decades of electronic music and I called it the "Warm Sticky Truth."
RIP William Onyeabor
William Onyeabor was an amazing Nigerian funk music legend who sadly passed away today.
If you are unfamiliar with Mr. Onyeabor's work, here is a documentary about him:
And a playlist I built last year around one of my favorite William Onyeabor songs:
Bob Odenkirk's New Movie Coming Soon on Netflix
Better Call Saul is coming back on April 10th (one of the many shows that I write recaps for), but before we return to the exciting world of Chuck, Jimmy, and Kim we are getting what looks very much like a Cohen Brothers style romp starring Bob Odenkirk and co-starring Amber Tamblyn (House), Natasha Lyonne (OITNB), Andy Richter, and even Toby Nuss (HACF).
Bob Odenkirk is one of my absolute favorites (some might even say I used to be obsessed with Mr. Show).
Oh and one other thing, it premieres on Netflix on February 14th...Yup, Valentine's Day.
This should hold me over until Mr. Show with Chuck and Jimmy (and Gus) comes back in April.
The Return of Chavez
I was a HUGE fan of the band Chavez in the 1990's. This was my favorite of their songs from back in the day:
Anyway, they have come back from retirement with a pretty good new but short EP called Cockfighters, check it out:
Closing Time
Okay, that is the end of another music news post. In other news, I just put out part 16 of my (very) deep dive into the Mr. Robot companion book Red Wheelbarrow. You can read it HERE.
Yesterday I covered new releases from Fred Thomas and a new 4 Disc Set from the legendary Human League. You can check it out HERE.
Monday, I covered new releases by The Courtneys and Pissed Jeans. You can check that out HERE.
