"I Hate Radio" Music News 10/29/2016
Curated Music News
If you are a Mr. Robot fan, you might want to check back soon (not only because I am covering the soundtrack in a few seconds)...I might have interviewed Sam Esmail earlier today (seriously, I will post it soon).
So, I am trying this format to communicate the music stories that speak to me every day (instead of just posting the links). Usually, I want to say more than is allowed in a Tweet.
I am also going to start a podcast soon, more on that as I get it all setup. As you can guess, it will be called "I Hate Radio" which is my response to "I Heart Radio."
Oh, and every Tuesday I put out new Spotify Playlists, this week's playlist is called "The Red Kismet Kill" playlist and you can check it out HERE.
Mac Quayle's Mr. Robot Soundtrack
Sure, I started this blog to be a place I could talk about music (in particular punk music) but, over the last year, it has become as much a television blog and no show has had more coverage here than Mr. Robot. If you haven't read my Mr. Robot stuff:
Check out the Complete Guide to Mr. Robot Season 2 HERE.
Or, feel free to check out my deep-dive into the companion book Red Wheelbarrow which starts HERE.
Was on Twitter earlier and saw that Mac Quayle (the Emmy-nominated guru behind the Mr. Robot "sound") had posted this:
The sound of Mr. Robot is almost a character in and of itself. In fact, the entire reason I started writing about the show was a tribute to the incredible use of the song "Pictures of You" in Season 1 E7.
Mac Quayle's music is well worth your time.
Billboard's List of 10 "Breakout" Alternative Artists 2017
Normally, I just kind of ignore Billboard. And don't get me wrong, there are some choices on this list of their picks for new breakout artists that are bizarre when placed in context with the artists that are awesome. But, this is a surprisingly strong list, and Billboard did just purchase Stereogum, so maybe some bleed-over is happening for the better.
In particular, I loved that they included:
* PWR BTTM (Here is their newest song)
* Lucy Dacus (whose album "No Burden" was in my Top 10 Albums of 2016)
* Girlpool (whose album "Before The World Was Big" was on my top 10 albums of 2015 list)
But, I was also excited to see Allison Crutchfield, Amber Coffman, and Vagabon all of whom I really like as well.
Okay, hope you enjoyed the news!
Wrapping Up
Like I said, the big news is that I got to ask Sam Esmail several questions earlier today. Aside from that I also got a follow from one of my all-time music heroes Chuck D. So, basically, today was a crazy good day.
What do you think of the music of Mr. Robot?
Who is your favorite new artist on the Billboard list?
What was your favorite television show of 2016?
