10 Things I Hated About Season 6 of Game of Thrones: #7 Littlefinger

Yup, I am the only person in America who did not love Season 6 of #GoT

Were you convinced that Season 6 of GoT was pure greatness?

Not me.

So, over the next 10 days, I am going to post the ten things that drove me crazy about Game of Thrones Season 6.

I fully realize that I am in the minority on this but I am okay with people disagreeing with me. I also don't usually write because of ego or certainty that I am right.

In fairness, I did enjoy much of Season 6 but every time I started really enjoying things another Benioff and Weiss "consolidation" problem would appear on the show. I really don't mind Benioff and Wiess taking a different route to GRRM's conclusions, my problem is when the shortcuts undermine the logic of the characters and plot.

The picture of Jar Jar is a reference to me giving out Jar Jar awards throughout Season 6 based around my feeling that they have come down with George Lucas Disease of late.

Peter Baelish, From Game of Thrones Genius to Guy Without a Clue

It was certainly emotionally satisfying to see Petyr Baelish (Aiden Gillen) manipulate Robin Arryn (Lino Facioli) into letting him take the Knights of the Vale to go save Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) from Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon).

Except for the timing.

Remember it was Baelish who, mere months ago, convinced Sansa to marry Ramsay. Seriously, he convinced her to marry Ramsay then rode directly back to the Vale and rounded up the Knights of the Vale to go save her from the marriage he had just arranged?

What?

Even Sansa herself seemed to be pretty dumbfounded by this turn of events when he shows up to tell her he is back in town (when they meet in Mole’s Town).

I totally get that some time might have elapsed between the two events but Robyn acted as if Baelish had just returned from the long journey with Sansa too. And if Littlefinger was doing something else between trips, it was not at all explained to the audience.

But, It gets even weirder.

When she meets Baelish in Mole’s Town, Sansa says that  she wants nothing to do with Baelish or any of his help as he either:

A) Knew Ramsay was a monster and talked her into marrying him anyway

B) Did not know Ramsay was a monster which would make him an idiot (since virtually everyone else in the world of Westeros knows exactly who and what Ramsay Bolton really is).

But, instead of leaving for the return trip to the Vale, Littlefinger just hangs out with the Knights he borrowed somewhere in the North just in case Sansa calls him back?

What?

I get that Benioff and Weiss need him there, but there is no logic to why he is still there later when Sansa sends him a raven.

Oh, and then we find out the rest of his master plan, ask Sansa to marry him so he becomes the King of the North. Except that the smartest and most machiavellian person on the game board of Westeros apparently had no plan b for when Sansa said no.

So, he sat around the North for months while Jon and Sansa tried to raise troops, came precisely when Sansa called and had no backup plan at all? He just sat and let Jon become King because he had "A Dream" about Sansa that he was sure was valid?

Oy Vey.

Oh, and just in case you are wondering, yes, I do get that Sansa will probably turn on Jon etc. But what made me so grumpy is that this is another example of how Benioff and Weiss choose to force round pegs into small holes in order to force consolidation. They continuously choose to transform the logic underlying character's fundamental beings in order to force future plot points.

This one  has actually flabbergasted me the entire last several months. It still makes me grumpy even now.
