Swet Shop Boys + Crystal Fairy - Music News 1/26/2016

Curated Music News

Welcome to the heart of the Pirate Satellite. You will never hear the same music here every day. This is about sharing what is going on behind the labels and underneath the radio.

The resistance is about fighting homogenization. The music I play here is to demonstrate musical diversity.

In other words, if you say "who is that," I am doing my job right. In a perfect world, I am curating a big party full of diverse music you may or may not have heard before but will enjoy.

Every Tuesday, I put out playlists, this week I put out a playlist of protest music. The playlist was called the "Gold Plated Alternative Facts playlist" and you can hear it HERE.

I was a big fan of Das Racist (Heems) and I really liked "The Night Of" (Riz Ahmed aka Riz MC). Towards the end of 2016, they combined forces under the moniker Swet Shop Boys and released an album called Cashmere that I was pretty high on (I pushed it here several times and almost included it in my Top 45 Albums of 2016).

Well, anyway, they released a new video for my favorite song on the album Zayn Malik (which will be the only time you ever hear me utter that name and favorite in the same sentence). Here is that video:

So, in just the last few days and throughout the next few weeks we will have albums from Cloud Nothings, Japandroids, Priests, Ty Segall, Fred Thomas, and more.

But, in about a month, we will also get an album from the new "Supergroup" Crystal Fairy. including the Melvins Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover, At the Drive-In's Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, and Teri Gender Bender from Le Bucherettes (all bands that I love).

First, here is the new song (you can really hear the Buzz O influence in the opening riff):

If you aren't familiar with the Melvins, why not start here (Beware, this is where grunge came from, it is dark and sludgy goodness):

If you don't remember At The Drive In, here is a taste:

So, get ready for a full-on aural assault when this album comes out!

Closing Time

We might be getting close to the time when our only choice will be to "Party at Ground Zero" soon. But, until then hopefully, we can continue to share and listen to great music.

Below, I will hook up a link to the most important book necessary to understanding POTUS.

Anyway, Explore, Enjoy, and Share Music!
