Playlist: Safe Steel Medicine Dart
by Joshua B. Hoe
This one was influenced by Clash Week on my blog. Last Sunday was International Clash Day, and since The Clash is my favorite band, I decided to try to honor them in some way throughout the week.
The breakdown is:
1. Patience, Ghostplay, 33 2. Safe European Home, The Clash, Give Em' Enough Rope 3. Public Image, Public Image Ltd., First Issue 4. Under The Sun, DIIV, Is The Is Are 5. The Message, Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Single 6. Another Song, Swell Maps, A Trip To Marineville 7. It Was So Funny, Erasers, Ork Records - New York New York 8. Fist Heart Mighty Dawn Dart, Ty Segall, Ty Rex 9. Medicine Show, Big Audio Dynamite, This Is Big Audio Dynamite 10. In The City, The Jam, In The City 11. Gates Of Steel, DEVO, Freedom Of Choice
Some notes, I was really happy to include Ghostplay a really great band from Sacramento that I have gotten to talk to a few times. I really liked how their song patience fit with Safe European Home.
So, this journalist named Jes Skolnik has a GREAT series on Flavorwire called "The Forgotten Women Of Punk" and this week she highlighted Eraser. I like to think I know some things about NYC punk and I learned a TON from her article. You should 100% read her stuff!
My usual shout out to Keith Levene for the great riff on Public Image! And as you know, I love DEVO!
Last weeks playlist was one of my favorites you can listen to it here.
Viva Clash!
